After (loosely) Marceline Desbordes-Valmore

I stumbled on the cape, and the flowers I had gathered
Spilled, and were swept away by the wind.

The waves went red with roses.

My hands are empty. But lift my fingers to your face;
They hold still the smell of roses and the sea.
